An American destination wedding. Not in America, but in our lovely Netherlands at Westerliefde to be exact. Because this little country can be so pretty.
An American / Indian / Dutch wedding
Julian (who is partly Indian) and Katie decided to get married in Amsterdam, the capital city of The Netherlands. Julian has a special relationship with this city, because he used to live here for a couple of years. His parents still have an apartment in the centre. So it wasn’t a total surprise for friends and family when they told them they wanted to get married here. They flew to the Netherlands to arrange things and we photographed them for a loveshoot.
They choose the Westerliefde als their wedding venue. An industrial, vintage-y location in the “Westerpark”. Quite a special place, since the park is very tranquil compared to the rest of the city. To make their wedding extra relaxed, they booked Nailia of Best Day Ever as their wedding planner and stylist. A great decision, especially because Katie is event planner herself and thus has an eye for detail.
Americans in Amsterdam
We love the way Americans look at “our city”. They use the canals, the forms of transportation, they see the beautiful buildings and take Amsterdam as a place where you can really enjoy yourself. They rent great apartments, invite their family and friends and in general just have a good time. Same with Katie and Julian. They enjoyed the city life to their fullest.
Getting married at The Westerliefde
After the first look we took some photos in the centre of Amsterdam. We then went to the Wester Park and had some time before the ceremony started. After the ceremony the couple enjoyed some great cheese. Have you ever seen something so cute? A cake made entirely out of cheese: nomnomom!
The evening was filled with great food, laughter, a few speeches and a great party, hosted by De Helden. A great day for an American/Amsterdam-wedding : )
