A part Scottish and part Dutch wedding. Jaap and Craig had the plans all laid out. The complete day was to take place at Pavilion Puur and they wondered if we would take the photos. Now let me be a huge fan of Scotland. Very much so!
Last Friday we got to take the pictures. The preparations were at Pavilion Puur, and actually the term “preparations” was quite literal this time. In fact, Jaap and Craig had made a signpost and wanted to put it together themselves. And some honeycombs, paper fans and pompoms also had to be hung. Oh yes and of course countless small felt balls scattered around. How good it looked! We were thrilled anyway that we were finally going to experience a complete day, with ceremony and all the trimmings, at Pavilion Puur.
Both men arrived with their mothers for the ceremony. Very nice to see. And Janita (Blanken van de Berg) did the ceremony partly in English and partly in Dutch. I always love learning more about the bride and groom at times like that. The personal speeches of the guests were also very nice to hear. And afterwards, they were sprinkled with many more wool/felt balls.
The reception and photo shoot also took place at this location. We wanted to take photos “with a nice big tree,” in a natural setting, preferably from a distance, so Ramon quickly set out to find the perfect tree. After we did the photo shoot and there were several speeches in Dutch and Scottish, it was time for a nice barbecue. While all the guests enjoyed snacks and drinks, we made some overviews. We also photographed extensively the secretly recurring theme of “sheep.” It had not been the intention at all, but because the venue had laid out sheepskins, 5 sheep had escaped into a nearby field and there was a lot of use of wool and felt, this theme sneaked back in. Combine this with the McNeill family’s traditional tartan (the Scottish tartan in blue and yellow), two sweet wedding men, international guests and a lovely venue and you have a unique wedding day!
