A wedding in the woods
In Belgium you usually get married at the town hall and afterwards maybe at the church. That’s kind of the usual idea of getting married. But Dorien and Toon-Bert wanted to marry differently. Getting married in a way that everyone would remember the day. Getting married like it’s never been done before in Belgium. Completely their way.
Take their Scouting-skills, Dorien’s methodical approach and Toon-Bert’s technical insight. Add some friends and bet on a little good weather. And voila: a ” wedding in the woods” (to put it in Flemish). Because this couple is from Flanders and we were there to photograph this day. A day that started with the preparations, where we then went to the city hall and had the photo shoot afterwards. After that there was time for a reception, an extra personal wedding ceremony and then a delicious dinner.
Something old from the groom: a beautiful hand-wound watch from his grandfather.
The bride, her sister and her best friend had matching bracelets.
I suspect this was the best Flemish “town hall” ceremony we’ve experienced so far! Personal, full of humour and even a bit emotional at the right moments.
And then we went to a beautiful area for the photo shoot. This couple loves color and so we went to a heath area.
Ah yes, and then the forest location where they got married. On a piece of land, which belongs to the Scouting, a week was spent building this special place. Countless pallets were used to make benches, tables and decorative elements. How awesome!
And then that dinner spot! You’d have to have dinner there…
Getting married in the rain
And yes, it is always possible, even in August: a shower. Fortunately it was a short shower, maybe ten minutes of rain on an otherwise beautiful day. Luckily the bride and groom were completely relaxed and there were plenty of umbrellas for the guests. And secretly this made the setting extra cozy. For the guests took shelter and immediately took a bite and a drink. In short, this wedding was rain-proof!
Live music, games, an Instagram wall: they thought of everything.
Personal wedding ceremony in the forest
So after the reception it was time for the ceremony. This is the moment to say special words to each other and to the guests. And of course the moment to for speeches. In one hour there were several speeches from witnesses, friends and the bride and groom themselves. And we couldn’t keep our mouths dry either when Dorien’s mother paid tribute to her two daughters. Because that was rightfully beautiful: she was not only addressing her beautiful marrying daughter, but her other beautiful daughter as well. Love.
During dinner a short evening shoot. Always a nice break from a long (but pleasant) sit.
Partying with Flemings
Well, and then there’s the party. Because we told you before that Flemings know how to build a party. Complete with windscreen wipers (ruitenwissers), shots of FlΓΌgel and masks. Anyway, let’s turn this story into images, because in the end that’s what we make.
And yes, somewhere around here the party was on! First a flash mob, then a few more bits and GO. Just party on: we do love this kind of wedding.
