Getting married on an island. Where your parents have a vacation home. With Fjords in the backyard and a canal in your front yard. How romantic is this stylish wedding on a small island near Blokzijl and Giethoorn? We can’t get over it.
A unique wedding venue
Willemijn and Liang knew it for a while: this was going to be the place where they would tie their lives together. In the backyard of the house where Willemijn has spent countless fine family summers. Where she built cabins with her brother and sisters, went swimming and enjoyed all the beauty that Dutch summers can have. The wedding simply could not take place anywhere else. And how grateful we are to have been able to attend!
Wedding planner The Bridesmaid put us in touch and we immediately got excited about all the plans. It would be quite an undertaking, because as we indicated, this is an island. .. And completely surrounded by water so everything had to be sailed across by boat. Includes two giant tents, all the flowers, chairs, things for catering and much more. But how beautiful it was!
First look at the water
Liang started in nearby Dwarsgracht, while Willemijn actually started on the island. They saw each other on the decking in front of the house. A place where you can completely relax because of the beautiful view. We then took a boat out for some photos.
The ceremony took place in the backyard. With a view of the Fjords standing in a large field. The bride and groom sat on two old Chinese chairs and there was a glass bowl with 3 Lotus, because Liang is a Buddhist. This aspect of his life was also woven all the way through the ceremony. A ceremony that was very personal anyway.
Enjoying the afternoon
The afternoon was filled with toasts to the bride and groom, an insane cake table by Heerlijk & Hecht, a gin-tonic bar, a smoothie bar, live music and lots of great conversations. After the group photo, the party moved to the table and began a delicious dinner where guests had a shared dinner. Bowls of food were on the table and catering came by with fine wines and delicious appetizers from the barbecue.
Our day was over when the company finished dining. There had been beautiful musical interludes, fine speeches and atmospheric moments. We said goodbye, got into a small boat and were ferried back across. By now it was raining, but what a romantic ending to such a unique wedding day.
This is the reaction of Liang’s mother when he announced he was playing Cello again for the first time in 23 years.
