So, I’m not really sure what a typical Japanese Wedding would look like, but this couple decided to incorporate a bit of Japan into their Dutch Wedding.
DIY Japanese Wedding
Shaila is a seamstress and that’s quite handy when you want to have a DIY wedding. She made the kimonos for the flower girls. And that outfit her nephew Mathis is wearing? Yup, made by Shaila. How much color can you add to a wedding day?
Leiden and Hoogmade
We started taking photos in Hoogmade, where Shaila’s parents live. We knew this place from the moment her sister got married in Leiden. Rolf started in Leiden, at his parents’ house. The first look took place not long after this and a few minutes later we were heading for the centre of Leiden for the photoshoot at the Hortus Botanicus. For those who do not know the Hortus: it is a lovely photo location in Leiden. In a few greenhouses and some big gardens you almost get the feeling that you are abroad! We love this location.
So we took some photos outside of the greenhouses, but we went inside as well! I love all those big leaves <3
Hortus Botanicus Leiden
In the Hortus is a Japanse Garden as well. We couldn’t leave this location without taking some photos here ;)
Party time at Brasserie Buitenhuis
After the official ceremony, we went to “Het Valkenburgse Meertje” for the location “Brasserie Buitenhuis”. We loved the versatile nature of this location. You can style it yourself. The couple enjoyed their wedding cake, talked to their guests and spent some time together. We did a mini shoot featuring the styling that was done by Oh Happy Day and afterwards walked to a tiny train station.
Heerlijke Japanse Styling
Indeed, this great Japanese styling was a collaboration between our bride Shaila and styling Kristel (Oh Happy Day). We loved the styling: many many colors, cranes and special materials. And those cute banners / bunting were made by Shaila.
So we ended this day after a few family photos near the station. They hopped into the train and waved us goodbye.
